HUNGER

JOIN US
Hunger affects thousands of individuals and families every day. Hunger isn’t due to a lack of food — it’s due to lack of access, income, and opportunity. On Long Island, recent studies estimate that around 240,000 + people — about 1 in 12 residents — struggle with food insecurity. Stand Up to Poverty is committed to being part of the solution—but we can’t do it without you.

Here are ways you can help:
-
Volunteer at a food drive or donation event
-
Host a donation box at your business or organization
-
Become a donor
-
Spread the word and advocate for hunger awareness
Together, we can build a future where every person has access to nutritious food and the opportunity to thrive.

how we help
FOOD
DONATION
Community generosity fuels our mission. Monetary and food donations allow us to reach more people and respond to hunger where it hits hardest.

Your contributions help us:
-
Purchase fresh produce and healthy staples
-
Partner with local farms and suppliers
-
Prepare meals for families experiencing hardship
-
Expand outreach to underserved neighborhoods

Whether big or small, every donation directly supports our fight against hunger.

FOOD
DRIVE
Our food drives are the heart of our hunger‑relief efforts. Throughout the year, we organize community-wide collections where individuals, schools, businesses, and local partners come together to donate non-perishable items.

Through these drives, we are able to:
-
Supply families with essential groceries
-
Stock neighborhood food pantries
-
Distribute emergency food kits
-
Support seniors, veterans, and low-income households

Every can, box, or bag donated becomes nourishment—and hope—for someone in need.

At Stand Up to Poverty, we believe that no individual or family should ever have to wonder where their next meal will come from. As a dedicated nonprofit organization, our mission is simple yet urgent: fight hunger, strengthen communities, and bring hope to those who need it most.
Hunger isn’t just a lack of food — it’s food insecurity: the uncertainty of having enough nutritious food to live a healthy, active life. It affects children, working families, seniors, and individuals across our region, despite being one of the wealthiest areas in the country. We take action through hands-on programs designed to provide immediate relief while fostering long-term food security.
